No friends full barn

I see from other review that Im not the only one who cant add friends? My mom and I play and we have tried everything but the game will not let us, so no gifts and no way to get nails. So that means no expanding the barn, without paying money - thats not fair. I cant even earn enough coins to buy anything. I sell on the board but it asks for things I cant do as I dont have the coin to buy that building yet!! So frustrating
